Four outdoor Lumiere events, over four months, in Cornwall, in winter!
The Signs and Wonders project is a series of events themed around the four elements – Fire, Earth, Water and Air. Designed to engage the community each event features work created during workshops with schools and local community groups led by distinguished Cornish artists.
The first event on 25th November in St. Rumen’s Garden, Redruth was designed to transform the space turning a usually dark urban park into a space of light and wonder for the beginning and end of the children’s lantern parade.
The second event due to be on 27th January was at Gwennap Pit however due to an unusually wet January this had to be postponed.
February 24th then and time for the event at Carn Marth Amphitheatre and Lake. Two bands – The Three Daft Monkeys (2 of them!) and Hantehir rocked the quarry to the delight of the many people who turned out on a cold (2°c!) night. A brilliant event with Indian street food, coffee and crêpes, sea creature lanterns by Kate Beesley and a lit floating wreath of plastic bottle flowers made by Clare Summerson and community groups impressed the crowds (yes there was a big crowd!)
The ‘Finale’ in St. Day village will be on 24th March with the re-scheduled Gwennap Pit event taking place on 14th April.
